Description

Meissen porcelain miniature dog, c. 1920. Modelled after J.J. Kaendler, as a standing dog, barking. Set upon an oval base, and supported by a tree stump.

Underglaze blue crossed swords mark, and impressed model numbers.

Length – 5 cm, 2”.

Height – 4.3 cm, 1 3/4”.

Depth – 2 cm, 3/4”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.

The Meissen manufactory in Saxony began producing hard-paste porcelain animals in the early eighteenth century, establishing a tradition of detailed zoological modelling that continued into the twentieth century.

Meissen pieces are crafted from hard-paste porcelain composed of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, fired at high temperatures and finished with hand-applied glazes and polychrome enamels.
