This German porcelain decorative object is a miniature dog figure from the 1920 period. The piece takes the form of a standing dog modelled after J.J. Kaendler, shown barking with an open mouth and a curled tail. It has a white glazed finish and sits upon an oval base supported underneath the body by a tree stump, with subtle green painting on the stump and base. Underneath the glaze, a blue crossed swords mark is present alongside impressed model numbers. The sculpture measures 5 cm in length, 4.3 cm in height, and 2 cm in depth. Placement suits a bookshelf in an English Country House interior setting. The miniature figurine provides a refined historical accent to display shelves or mantelpieces alongside books and other small decorative collections. Handling requires care due to the delicate porcelain construction and small scale.

FAQs

The Meissen manufactory in Saxony began producing hard-paste porcelain animals in the early eighteenth century, establishing a tradition of detailed zoological modelling that continued into the twentieth century.

Meissen pieces are crafted from hard-paste porcelain composed of kaolin, feldspar, and quartz, fired at high temperatures and finished with hand-applied glazes and polychrome enamels.

Authentic pieces feature the factory mark of crossed swords painted underglaze in blue, usually accompanied by incised model numbers and impressed press marks on the base.

A porcelain figurine can be placed on a bookshelf, glass cabinet, or mantelpiece alongside modern artwork or leather-bound volumes to create structural and visual interest.

Dust gently using a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush, avoiding abrasive chemical cleansers or prolonged submersion in water to protect the glaze.
