Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Victorian side table is constructed from solid mahogany with a polished warm brown finish and brass hardware. Dating from the early to mid 19th Century, the English Country House style piece features a rounded rectangular top with a moulded edge, set upon a turned pedestal stem that rises from three splayed tripod legs with turned ball feet and a tilt-top mechanism. The timber displays a lovely patina, visible grain patterns, and minor signs of age and use including light marks and knocks. Practical dimensions measure 69 cm high, 86 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. In a contemporary interior, the table functions well at the end of a sofa or as a compact occasional surface in a living room, study, or hallway. The sturdy framework and level top provide a reliable display space for lamps, books, or decorative objects when not tilted upright. The compact footprint makes it adaptable for placement in both spacious period rooms and more modest modern spaces.

FAQs

A tilt-top table, historically known as a snap table, incorporates a hinged top mechanism allowing the tabletop to pivot into a vertical position for compact storage when not in use.

Victorian tilt-top tables were crafted from hardwoods such as solid mahogany or rosewood, featuring turned pedestal columns, hand-dovetailed catch blocks, and splayed tripod legs fitted with brass castors.

Authentic pieces feature original iron or brass release latches on the underside of the table, turned baluster stems, period-appropriate joinery, and a natural aged patina across the timber finish.

A tilt-top table serves as an ideal occasional table beside a sofa or reading chair, or it can be positioned vertically against a hallway wall to showcase the grain of the mahogany.

Regular dusting with a dry microfibre cloth and an annual application of beeswax polish will protect the finish, while placing the table away from direct sunlight prevents uneven timber fading.
