Strickland & Russell has dated this Framed Batik Textile Art to the 1950s.
The palette is particularly appealing, combining faded crimson red, ochre, cream, olive and blue-green tones. The natural variations within the dye and extensive batik crackle give the piece a beautifully aged and individual appearance.

Presented in a simple dark-stained wooden frame which complements the colours extremely well.
The construction, frame and fittings appear consistent with some age. I believe the piece to be mid-20th century, although I have been unable to establish an exact date, maker or country of origin and therefore offer it simply as a vintage batik textile work. The reverse retains its old wooden backing, hanging rings and cord, together with several remnants of an old printed-paper backing or label.

Approximate Age of Artwork: Circa Mid 20th Century

Important notice regarding frames – please read carefully.
Items which are presented in frames are usually the old original frames which came with the artwork. We would typically only remove the frames if they were severely broken or damaged. In line with our conservation ethos, we believe that a painting should be sold within its original setting rather than re-presenting in a contemporary mount & frame unless necessary. Customers also prefer to choose their own way of presenting their painting or engraving. Frames therefore WILL have wear, discolouration or damage in line with their age.

When we value and sell artwork, we provide the frame free. We do not accept liability for damage caused to frame in transit. We are more than happy to remove frames before posting at the customer’s request

Condition Report: Vintage condition with age-related wear. There are areas of fading, variation to the colouring, surface marks and several small scuffs/abrasions where the lighter fabric beneath is visible. The wooden frame also shows expected marks and wear from age and use.

The extensive fine dark crackling visible throughout the design is characteristic of the batik wax-resist process and forms part of the appearance of the work rather than being conventional cracking to a painted surface.

Please study all photographs carefully as these form an important part of the condition description.
A very decorative piece of vintage textile art with lovely muted colours and considerable period character.
