Gertrude Antiques has dated this Staffordshire Lion Lamb Figure to the 1860s.
It was the lion tamer Van Ambrugh, who inspired the potters to create this piece. Van Ambrugh trained a lion to lie with the lamb as described in biblical texts.

The biblical reference comes from Isaiah 11:6, and reflect the period’s focus on peace and harmony.
Provenance: This piece comes from the esteemed collection of religious figures belonging to the late Stephen Duckworth (see label at the base).
Thin hairline crack at the back and a little wear at the base.
