A delft rack is an open wooden shelving unit designed during the Georgian period specifically to display delftware, pewter, and earthenware plates above a dresser base or mounted directly onto a wall.

Antique plate racks were predominantly constructed from regional hardwoods such as English oak, featuring hand-planed backboards, moulded cornices, hand-wrought iron or brass hooks, and pegged mortise-and-tenon joinery.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display signs of historical tool marks such as pit-saw or adze impressions on the rear boards, hand-forged iron fixings, natural timber shrinkage across wide joints, and age-consistent patination.

Mount the oak rack above a kitchen unit or sideboard to present contemporary ceramics, framed artwork, or vintage copperware, creating a focal point that blends historical craftsmanship with modern decor.
