An Attractive Arts & Crafts Oak Dining/kitchen/hall Table, Circa 1900–1920

A handsome and unusually designed Arts & Crafts oak dining or kitchen table, dating to the early 20th century.

The substantial rectangular plank top displays particularly attractive figuring and a rich, warm honey-brown colour developed through age and use. The table is supported at either end by distinctive twin upright supports, characteristic of the Arts & Crafts movement’s emphasis on visible construction, simplicity and craftsmanship.

The uprights are united by a particularly useful full-length lower undertier, itself made from well-figured oak, while the shaped sledge-style feet give the table a strong architectural appearance and excellent stability. Shaped brackets beneath the top provide additional support and are an attractive detail when viewed from either end. These add considerably to its authentic Arts & Crafts appearance rather than detracting from it. It has a rather more architectural Arts & Crafts character than the more commonplace oak refectory tables. I would describe it as possibly influenced by the Cotswold/English Arts & Crafts tradition

A very practical table with excellent proportions, comfortably suited for use as a kitchen, dining or library table. Its good 91.5 cm depth makes it particularly versatile while the 134.75 cm length provides a generous dining surface.

Condition: The table retains a pleasing mellow colour and character, with the variations to the finish associated with aged marks from use of the top as seen in pictures and priced as such.
