This nineteenth-century culinary press and mould belongs to the folk art style and is made from carved wood with a warm brown finish. The central section displays relief carving featuring repeating geometric diamond patterns, concentric squares, and round rosette motifs. At either end, simple projecting handles assist in pressing down to make imprints into pastry or rice cakes. A small hanging hole is drilled through the wood near the top edge. The timber shows visible grain variations and aged surface texture from historical use. This wooden mould measures 41 cm in length, including the handles. Placed on a bookshelf or displayed flat as a decorative wall hanging, it brings a rustic farmhouse character to a country kitchen, utility room, or living space. Its tactile carved decoration and rich warm brown tones make it an appealing decorative accessory for traditional interior schemes.

An antique carved press mould is a hand-carved wooden tool traditionally used to imprint relief patterns onto butter, dough, gingerbread, or textiles prior to preparation or sale.

These moulds were typically crafted from dense, fine-grained hardwoods such as boxwood, fruitwood, oak, or beech, which allowed for intricate carving and resisted warping from moisture.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-tool marks, natural surface patination, uneven wear consistent with repeated historic use, and smooth, darkened edges along carved recessed areas.

An antique mould can be displayed on a bookshelf, mounted on a wall inside a shadow box, or arranged flat on a sideboard as a tactile sculptural object.

Clean gently using a soft, dry brush to clear dust from recessed carvings, and preserve the timber by applying a light coat of natural beeswax polish, avoiding water immersion entirely.
