Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A library scroll stand is a specialised piece of furniture engineered to hold rolled documents, maps, architectural plans, or prints in an upright position. Popular during the Victorian era, these stands were typically kept in private study spaces, libraries, or offices to organize delicate rolled papers without creasing them.

Victorian library scroll stands were predominantly crafted from solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut. Construction methods relied on traditional joinery techniques, including mortise and tenon joints, turned vertical spindles or fluted columns, octagonal or circular tiered framing, and hand-lathed finials or bun feet.

Authentic 19th-century scroll stands exhibit hand-carved or hand-turned details, original pegged or screwed joinery, and natural wear patterns along the base and timber edges. The underside often retains tool marks, and the wood surface will demonstrate a rich aged patina that differs from modern uniform chemical staining.

An antique scroll stand can be styled as a sculptural architectural object in an entry hall, study, or living room. It can function in its original capacity to store large rolled art prints or maps, or serve as a unique decorative focal point alongside traditional and contemporary furnishings.

Maintain solid oak antiques by dusting regularly with a dry, soft microfibre cloth and applying high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year to nourish the wood finish. Keep the timber away from direct heat sources, radiators, and prolonged direct sunlight to prevent drying, cracking, or fading.
