Three Volumes – British Battles on Land and Sea by James Grant, c.1870s

A complete three–volume set of British Battles on Land and Sea by James Grant, published by Cassell, Petter & Galpin, London, Paris and New York. Large octavo format, each volume measuring 20 × 26.5 cm, illustrated throughout with numerous engravings.

Bound in contemporary half–leather with gilt tooled spines and red title labels. The bindings show wear, rubbing and losses, particularly to the spine ends and corners, with fading and marking to the cloth boards. The text pages are generally clean and legible, with some foxing and age–related spotting, and the set carries a noticeable musky/damp odour from previous storage. Hinges sound though a little tender in places.
