Early 19th C English Bone Handled Corkscrew Circa 1820

£375    $502    €439
This fine, small steel corkscrew dates to the English Regency period and is beautifully made in steel. It has a twisted screw for inserting into the bottle''s cork, finishing with a sharp edge ferrule for cutting the cork seal.

The stem is a nicely shaped bolster which terminates in a T shaped grip which is mounted on both sides with mellow coloured bone grips.

On the top edge, there is a swivel ring for hanging or attaching to a chain.

This type of small corkscrew was generally a pocket item and often used by a servant in a large country house.

The corkscrew''s condition is excellent, with both steel and the bone each having a lovely original patina.

English, circa 1820
