Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century French desk accessory takes the form of a curved rocker blotter in the Napoleon III style. Constructed from warm brown rosewood and walnut, the body displays geometric parquetry inlay in a cubic pattern across the curved sides and lid. A sculpted gilt bronze cherub head functions as the handle on top, while the underside is finished with a green felt panel. The piece shows an original old used patination consistent with age and handling. Measuring 11 cm high, 16 cm wide, and 8.5 cm deep, this desk blotter fits neatly on an office desk or library table to serve as a functional writing tool and a decorative accent in a study.

FAQs

A rocker blotter is a writing accessory featuring a curved lower surface wrapped in absorbent felt or blotting paper, used to soak up excess liquid ink from handwritten pages.

French desk blotters from the nineteenth century were typically crafted using fine hardwoods such as walnut or rosewood, decorated with parquetry or marquetry inlays, and finished with gilt bronze or ormolu mounts.

Authentic nineteenth-century French examples often showcase hand-cut geometric parquetry, cast gilt bronze handles with natural age patina, and precise joinery underneath the rocker mechanism.

An antique rocker blotter functions as a decorative sculpture or functional accent on an executive writing desk, console table, or library shelf.

Maintain wood surfaces with a light application of beeswax polish, dust gilt bronze gently with a soft dry brush, and keep the object away from direct heat sources to prevent wood movement.
