Pair of Brass and Glass Tables

1900 - 1920
Description

A really glamorous and stylish pair of brass, glass and Bakelite coffee or side tables.

Fantastically stylish and sleek art deco design.

Originally bought in Harrods. Some foxing to the brass which would be expected on a piece of this age. This certainly doesn’t detract from the attractiveness of the tables.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

These side tables are a 1920 Hollywood Regency pair constructed from brass, glass, and lucite, showing a clear glass inset top within a metallic gold framework and thick clear corner legs. The design incorporates stepped brass mouldings along the top edges, visible tarnishing and foxing on the brass surfaces, and visible screw hardware at the joints. Each table measures 58.5 cm high, 60 cm wide, and 60 cm deep. Position these pieces in a living room at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair to hold lamps or decorative objects. The metallic gold and transparent materials complement both contemporary and mid-century interiors, providing a functional surface while maintaining an open visual footprint in the space.

FAQs

Originating in 1930s California and remaining popular through the 1970s, Hollywood Regency style emphasises opulence, metallic finishes, clear lucite, and glass surfaces designed to reflect light and enhance room layout.

These pieces typically feature solid or plated brass framework combined with thick tempered glass insert tops and clear acrylic or Lucite corner supports.

Authentic pieces display genuine weight in the metal framework, subtle surface patination at the joints, bevelled glass insert edges, and clear, un-yellowed acrylic components.

Position the pair flanking a sofa or alongside reading armchairs to introduce subtle metallic tone and extra surface area without visually overwhelming the floor space.

Clean glass panels with standard glass cleaner and a microfibre cloth, whilst using a dry soft cloth for the brass and acrylic components to avoid damaging protective lacquers.
