Grand Tour Ink Well With Compass

A quality Edwardian Grand Tour marble ink well with inset compass to the top c.1910. Made from turned veined marble with the heavy base firming a paper weight. The removable top marble section with inset compass to the top, which has a removable pewter lid protecting the compass. The pewter lid removing to reveal an inset compass with white dial behind a glazed viewing window. The marble top with compass lifting off to access the ink well, which has an inset glass liner to the centre. An interesting desk item, presented in excellent original condition with a rich patina and fully working compass. Keep up to date via our Instagram channel - sturmansantiques.
