Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Early Georgian fold-over games table is a decorative and functional furniture piece originating from eighteenth-century Britain. Designed with a dual-purpose hinged leaf top, it rests against a wall as a narrow console table when closed and unfolds into a larger square surface for playing cards or board games.

Georgian card tables were constructed using solid native woods such as oak or pine for the secondary frame, covered with figured walnut or burr walnut veneers. Details often included herringbone or crossbanded borders, polished brass handles, and cabriole legs terminating in pad or claw feet.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints on frieze drawers, original iron hinges, and hand-planed secondary timbers. Look for natural grain variations in the walnut veneer, historic wear along the fold-over top, and hand-turned leg construction indicative of early eighteenth-century craftsmanship.

Position the table closed against a hallway or living room wall as an entryway console or side table beneath a framed mirror. Pair the rich wood tones with contemporary ceramics, brass sconces, or modern art to create a balanced contrast between historic craftsmanship and modern design.

Maintain walnut furniture by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and applying a natural beeswax polish twice a year to preserve the timbers moisture. Keep the table away from direct sunlight and central heating sources to prevent veneer lifting or surface discolouration.
