London City Antiques has dated this piece to the 1800s.

The desk features a hand tooled leather inset top with gilt and blind decoration together with an unusual pull out leather writing slide providing additional workspace. One side is fitted with three drawers while the opposing side contains stationery drawers and compartments making this a practical and highly decorative antique Georgian library desk.

Originally designed so two people could work opposite one another, partners desks became popular in Georgian libraries, estate offices and gentleman’s studies. The additional pull out writing surface on this example is a particularly unusual feature and adds greatly to its versatility and appeal.

Condition Report
