This nineteenth-century French Chateau style side table exhibits a golden-brown burr walnut and walnut construction with a warm, polished timber finish. The serpentine-edged top displays an inlaid crossbanded border surrounding a figured burr veneer centre, complemented by a single frieze drawer fitted with a central keyhole. Four slender cabriole legs support the frame, curving outward gracefully before tapering down to small pad feet. The design includes shaped aprons below the drawer front and along the sides, creating a refined silhouette typical of antique country furniture. Measuring 77 cm high, 64 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, the table provides a compact surface area suited for domestic interiors. Placed at the end of a sofa or beside an armchair, it functions as a practical stand for holding small lamps, books, or decorative items within a living room or sitting room setting.

Rococo style side tables, originating in 18th-century France, are defined by fluid curves, cabriole legs, asymmetrical motifs, and decorative wood veneers.

These tables were constructed using solid timber frames topped with highly figured burr veneers, such as walnut or elm, often bordered with crossbanded inlays and brass hardware.

Authentic examples feature hand-cut marquetry or crossbanding, irregular grain patterns in the burr veneer, historical joinery like hand-dovetailed drawers, and natural oxidisation on the timber underside.

A burr wood table functions as a focal accent alongside contemporary upholstered sofas, in reading nooks, or paired with minimalist ceramic accessories to highlight the wood grain.

Maintain burr wood surfaces by dusting regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, applying beeswax periodically, and placing the piece away from direct sunlight and heat radiators to prevent veneer lifting.
