Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

During the George IV and Regency eras, decorative pelmets were designed to conceal curtain rods while enhancing the grand proportions of high-ceilinged interiors. Crafted from prized hardwoods like mahogany, these architectural fittings reflected the Classical Revival styles favoured in early 19th-century British homes.

19th-century pelmets were primarily constructed from solid pine or oak frames covered with decorative mahogany, rosewood, or walnut veneers. Hand-carved decorative elements, such as acanthus leaves and botanical motifs, were often fashioned from solid timber and attached to the main structure.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut joinery, rich natural oxidisation on the timber, and flame or figured mahogany veneers applied with animal glue. Carvings from this period show subtle hand-tool marks and period-correct motifs such as acanthus leaves, grapes, and anthemion scrolls.

Interior designers frequently position antique pelmets over modern tailored drapery to introduce historical character to a room. Alternatively, these decorative carved timber structures can be mounted directly above doorways or headboards as standalone architectural wall art.

Maintain mahogany pelmets by dusting regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth along the grain of the wood. Preserve the original finish by applying a high-quality beeswax paste once or twice a year, avoiding modern chemical sprays and direct exposure to damp or heat sources.
