FAQs

William IV furniture bridges the late Regency and early Victorian periods, characterised by robust proportions, classical revival motifs, and the prominent use of rich timbers such as mahogany.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised solid mahogany and mahogany veneers applied to secondary pine or oak carcases, often featuring hand-turned pedestals and brass castors.

Authenticity is identified through period-appropriate joinery, heavy timber weight, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, and natural patina such as wax accumulation and minor oxidisation on the wood surfaces.

This piece can be integrated into contemporary spaces by placing it beside neutral upholstered seating or using it as a surface for minimalist lamps and ceramics to contrast clean lines with historical warmth.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent splitting, and periodically apply natural beeswax to nourish the grain and protect the finish.
