This Chinese porcelain bowl originates from the Kangxi period around 1700, rendered in blue and white. The square shape incorporates canted corners and a lobed rim finished with a foot rim, displaying an underglaze cobalt glaze over a white ground. Painted panels present a seated scholar in a garden setting, alongside flowering plants, Ruyi head symbols, and a figure with a fishing rod. The base carries a six-character Kangxi mark within concentric circles. Visible details include a star crack on the base that does not penetrate the body, glaze frits along the rim, and a small chip inside the foot rim. Measuring 8 cm high, 14 cm wide, and 14 cm deep, the piece functions well as an accent on a sideboard top within an English country house interior.

Porcelain produced during the Kangxi reign (16621722) is distinguished by its refined white porcelain body, clear glaze, and multi-layered cobalt blue underglaze painting that creates depth and tonal variation.

These ceramics were formed from kaolin clay, hand-painted with cobalt oxide pigment onto the unfired body, coated in a translucent glaze, and fired at high temperatures in wood-burning kilns.

Authentic pieces feature smooth porcelain glaze with minimal firing imperfections, precise freehand brushwork in varying shades of blue, and period-correct reign marks or symbolic double rings on the base.

A blue and white porcelain bowl functions as an elegant focal point when positioned on a sideboard, mantelpiece, or open shelving alongside clean-lined modern furnishings.

Dust gently with a soft microfiber cloth and wash by hand using lukewarm water and mild detergent when necessary, avoiding harsh chemicals, abrasives, or sudden temperature changes.
