Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Decorative ewers were developed as non-functional, highly ornamental vessels inspired by Classical Roman and Renaissance pitcher forms. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, British manufacturers such as Royal Worcester produced paired ewers featuring elaborate gilding and specialized hand-painted panels for display in affluent households.

These vessels were slip-cast from fine porcelain or bone china before undergoing multiple kiln firings. Specialized artists applied enamel paints in stages to create detailed vignettes, after which liquid gold ground was applied, fired, and burnished to create rich gilded scrollwork.

Authentic pieces display printed factory backstamps on the underside, often accompanied by date codes consisting of dots, letters, or symbols. Painted works by notable artists, such as Herbert H. Chivers, frequently carry a subtle hand-painted artist signature within or near the main vignette.

Paired porcelain ewers are traditionally positioned symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, sideboard, or within a glass-fronted display cabinet. Placing them against neutral backdrops or alongside dark timber furniture highlights their rich ground colours and gilded details.

Dust porcelain ewers regularly using a clean, soft, dry feather duster or microfiber cloth. Avoid immersed washing, steam cleaning, or chemical detergents, as moisture and friction can wear away delicate burnished gold leaf and overglaze paint.
