This early 19th-century English library table or desk displays a Regency style in a warm brown flame mahogany timber with a polished finish. The rectangular top has rounded corners above an apron detailed with carved acanthus scrolls at each end, supported by turned pedestals and scrolled feet. Visible details include finely figured wood grain, decorative carvings, and turned woodwork throughout the sturdy structural supports. Measuring 74 cm high, 131.5 cm wide, and 70 cm deep, the piece functions practically in a home as a desk, dressing table, serving table, side table, or centre table in a study, library, or living space.

Early 19th-century library tables typically feature balanced classical proportions, hand-carved embellishments, and rich flame mahogany veneers characteristic of the Regency and William IV eras. Designed for reading and study, they frequently feature dual pedestal standard supports or turned legs with scrolled feet.

These tables were constructed using solid mahogany or pine frameworks veneered with cut flame mahogany. Traditional construction methods included hand-cut dovetail joints on drawers, mortise and tenon joinery, and hand-carved details along the frieze and legs.

Authentic period pieces show evidence of hand-planing on undersides and secondary timbers, as well as genuine hand-cut joinery. Examine the piece for original castors, period-correct carved motifs like acanthus leaves or scrolls, and natural surface patination.

An antique library table functions as a focal writing desk in a home office or placed behind a sofa in an open-plan living room. Combining the dark mahogany wood with modern lighting and contemporary seating creates a curated interior look.

Dust the wood surface regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice per year along the grain. Position the table away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber movement and finish deterioration.
