Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Bentwood magazine racks became prominent in the late nineteenth century through manufacturers like Gebruder Thonet, who patented a steam-bending process for beechwood. These racks provided lightweight, functional storage for newspapers and sheet music in commercial cafes and private residences.

Traditional bentwood pieces were primarily crafted from solid beech timber subjected to high-pressure steam. Once pliable, the wood was bent into curved iron moulds and left to set before being assembled with screws and finished with clear varnish or dark stain.

Authentic pieces frequently display paper maker labels or impressed paper stamps beneath the frame from makers such as Thonet or Jacob & Josef Kohn. Construction details, such as visible steel screw joinery and continuous steam-bent timber loops, also indicate genuine production.

A magazine rack can be placed alongside an armchair, sofa, or desk to store current literature, art books, or vinyl records. Its distinct curved silhouette adds textural contrast to contemporary, clean-lined rooms.

Dust regularly using a dry microfibre cloth and avoid placing the item near direct heat sources to prevent the wood from cracking. Periodic applications of high-grade beeswax polish maintain the timber finish and protect against moisture.
