Wedgwood 1871 Blue Jasperware Campana Urns Pair White Bas-reliefs Urns Pedestals

Description

Pair of antique Wedgwood jasperware urns and pedestals. The set is made of unglazed stoneware in a pale blue hue, featuring applied white bas-relief decoration. Each urn is modeled in the classical Campana shape with upturned loop handles formed as ram's heads and applied oak leaf and acorn borders around the rim. The main body of each urn is decorated with continuous figural scenes of neoclassical figures. The accompanying square-edged pedestals feature an applied white grapevine garland border around the sides. The underside of the base is impressed with the factory mark "WEDGWOOD" and the date code "ANZ", dating the manufacture of the pottery body to 1871. The interior of the urn appears white and glazed, showing some residue. The exterior is unglazed and has a matte, bisque finish. Total height is approximately 17 cm.

Jasperware is a dense, unglazed stoneware developed by Josiah Wedgwood in the 1770s, characterised by its matte finish and raised white bas-relief classical motifs.

These pieces were crafted using coloured stoneware bodies, onto which separately moulded white sprigged clay reliefs were hand-applied prior to a single firing process.

Authentic pieces feature impressed uppercase WEDGWOOD maker marks, factory date codes, clean relief moulding without blurriness, and a smooth matte surface texture.
