Description

A genuine handmade French provincial confit jar in terracotta earthenware, produced in southern France circa 1870–1890. The vessel is hand-formed from dense iron-rich clay with a warm cream-ochre body visible at the footrim, typical of Cévennes utilitarian pottery traditions. Its rounded form, short neck and twin loop handles reflect classic household storage jars used for preserving meats, olives, oil and everyday provisions. The deep bottle-green lead glaze displays natural tonal variation, pooling and subtle firing shadows, giving the surface a lively and highly decorative character.

Dimensions: height 19 cm; diameter 16 cm; weight 1,106 g.

Condition: tiny chip to the footrim; otherwise excellent antique condition.
