Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Queen Anne style furniture, prominent in the early 18th century, is characterised by graceful curves, cabriole legs, pad feet, and delicate carved motifs such as scallop shells. Highlighting the natural figuring of woods, craftsmen frequently used burr walnut veneers over solid timber carcasses to create decorative symmetry.

Traditional console and side tables from the 18th and 19th centuries were constructed using solid timber framesoften oak or pinefaced with decorative burr walnut or mahogany veneers. Drawers featured hand-cut dovetail joints, wood pegging, and cast brass handles with drop pulls or escutcheons.

Authentic period tables display signs of age, including subtle shrinkage marks along veneer joints, hand-sawn timber marks on backboards, and uneven, hand-cut drawer dovetails. Look for natural oxidisation in protected areas underneath the table and appropriate patina on original brass hardware.

A classic burr walnut console table creates an effective visual contrast when placed against clean, neutral walls or modern panelling. Complement the warm timber tone by topping it with contemporary ceramic vessels, minimalist table lamps, or hanging abstract artwork directly above the table.

To preserve burr walnut surfaces, dust regularly with a soft dry cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain moisture in the veneer. Keep the table away from direct sunlight, radiators, and air conditioning units to prevent the wood from drying, bleaching, or splitting.
