A Pickelhaube is a spiked leather helmet worn in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries by German military personnel, firefighters, and police forces. First designed in 1842 by King Frederick William IV of Prussia, it became an iconic symbol of the Imperial German military during the First World War.

Traditional Pickelhaubes were constructed from boiled leather treated to create a hard shell, finished with a black lacquer coating. The metallic fittings, including the prominent spike, front plate emblem, chinstrap fittings, and side cockades, were manufactured from brass, tombak, or nickel-plated steel.

Authentic examples feature genuine aged boiled leather construction, correct period metal fittings such as stamped brass heraldic crests, and original hand or machine stitching around the visors.
