FAQs

A Georgian serving table is a long, narrow table dating from the Georgian period (1714 to 1830), traditionally placed in dining rooms to hold food, silver, and ceramics during large meals before sideboards with cupboards became common.

These tables were typically constructed from solid mahogany or oak, often featuring fine veneers, hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawer construction where applicable, and mortise and tenon joinery for the frame.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate tool marks, timber shrinkage consistent with age, hand-forged iron or brass fixings, and a rich patina developed over centuries of oxidisation and polishing.

This piece can be styled as a functional console in a hallway or living room, topped with minimalist ceramics or a contemporary lamp to create a sophisticated contrast between old and new.

Maintain the timber by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying natural beeswax to nourish the wood without using silicone-based polishes.
