First Period Worcester refers to porcelain produced at the Worcester factory in England from its foundation in 1751 until 1783, renowned for innovative paste compositions and fine hand-painted decoration.

These pieces were typically crafted using a soapstone-infused soft-paste porcelain body, fired at lower temperatures, and finished with delicate enamel painting and relief moulding.

Authentication involves examining glaze pooling, underglaze blue or painted marks, potting irregularities, and the characteristic translucency of soft-paste porcelain under transmitted light.

Antique porcelain adds historical texture and refined colour when displayed within minimalist cabinetry, shadow boxes, or on open shelving paired with contemporary organic materials.

Soft-paste porcelain is fragile and porous; it should be hand-washed gently in lukewarm water with mild detergent when necessary, avoiding ultrasonic cleaners and prolonged immersion.
