Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Grand Tour intaglios are miniature plaster, sulphur, or glass paste casts of classical statues, gems, and architectural reliefs collected by travellers during the 18th and 19th centuries as educational and cultural souvenirs of Europe.

These pieces were typically crafted using plaster of Paris, wax, or sulphur, often set against a contrasting velvet or paper backing and housed in custom timber frames made of woods like birds eye maple or mahogany.

Authentic pieces usually exhibit age-appropriate patina on the frame, hand-carved or turned wooden mouldings, hand-cut backing papers, and crisp detailing in the casts that reflect genuine classical antiquity source material.

They can be displayed on gallery walls, placed on a mantelpiece, or styled on open bookshelves to introduce classical texture, historical depth, and scholarly charm to a room.

Plaster casts should be kept away from direct sunlight, moisture, and high humidity to prevent discolouration or degradation, and cleaned gently with a dry, soft brush rather than liquid solutions.
