Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 19th-century oak serving table is a piece of dining room or hallway furniture designed to assist with serving meals and storing tableware. Popular in nineteenth-century residences, these wide tables provided additional surface space alongside integrated frieze drawers.

These tables were constructed from solid hardwoods such as European oak. Traditional cabinetmaking techniques included hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, mortise and tenon frame joinery, and low H-stretchers to reinforce the legs.

Authentic pieces feature signs of historical age including natural timber shrinkage, hand-planed undersides, wood peg construction, original wooden knobs, and localized wear patterns along the stretchers and top surface.

Position the serving table in a foyer, corridor, or dining area against a neutral backdrop. Pair the timber structure with contemporary wall art or a oversized mirror above, placing minimalist ceramics or table lamps on the surface for contrast.

Dust the timber regularly with a clean, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the wood surface. Keep the table away from direct heat radiators and damp environments to prevent warping or splitting.
