Eighteenth-century mahogany tables are characterised by classical proportions, clean lines, and the introduction of dense, rich timber following the lifting of trade restrictions on mahogany.

These pieces typically feature solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, constructed using traditional hand-cut dovetail joints in the drawers and pegged mortise and tenon framing.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery such as hand-cut dovetails, genuine age-related patination, signs of manual tool use, and historical brass hardware fittings.

Pairing dark wood antique tables with contemporary minimalist decor, neutral backdrops, and modern lighting creates a balanced scheme that highlights the rich grain of the timber.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish the wood.
