Description

A wonderful antique walnut Queen Anne style coffee table, made in England and dating from around the 1900-1920 period.

It is of very fine quality, with a bold and very well made carved walnut frame. The top is beautifully caned and has a toughened glass top that sits inside. The table stands on wonderful cabriole legs with shell carving at the knees, terminating in claw and ball feet.

We have had this re-polished, the toughened glass was newly hand made for this table, the cane is all intact and damage free. This is in excellent condition for its age.

This could also double up as a stool if needed. You could take out the glass & have a loose cushion made to sit on top.

The Queen Anne style emerged in England during the late 17th century and early 18th century, characterised by curved lines, cabriole legs, and a departure from heavy ornamentation towards understated elegance.

Traditional construction frequently utilised walnut, which gained popularity for its rich grain and darker tones, often complemented by secondary woods such as oak or pine.

Authentic pieces typically feature traditional joinery methods such as dovetails and mortise-and-tenon joints, along with hand-carved details and natural age-related patination on the wood surface.

Pairing traditional wooden tables with contemporary seating creates a balanced aesthetic, allowing historical craftsmanship to act as a focal point within a room.

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight, and applying natural beeswax periodically to nourish the surface without sealing it permanently.
