FAQs

Early Victorian furniture spans the period from roughly 1837 to the mid-19th century, retaining late Georgian proportions while gradually incorporating heavier ornamentation and darker timber finishes.

These tables were predominantly crafted from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers over secondary softwoods, often featuring inset writing surfaces of coloured leather and turned brass or ceramic castors.

Authenticity is indicated by period-correct construction methods such as hand-cut dovetails on drawer linings, subtle timber oxidisation, traditional turnings, and appropriate wear consistent with age.

An antique writing table serves as a functional focal point in a home office or living space, pairing effectively with minimalist modern seating to create a balanced contrast of eras.

Maintain mahogany by applying microcrystalline wax sparingly and avoiding direct sunlight, while leather surfaces should be cleaned gently with a slightly damp cloth and treated with specialised leather balm.
