Description

A wonderful antique mahogany leather top nesting coffee table / side tables. These were made in England, they date from around the 1900-1920 period.

They are of excellent quality and have a very useful design. The two smaller side tables nest under the larger coffee table when not in use, and are designed to be used separately as side tables. The tables all have beautiful inset leather tops with tooled edges.

We have recently had these re-polished, the condition is excellent for their age. There are just a few minor marks and bumps remaining beneath the polish here and there, adding to the character.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Nesting tables, or sets of tables that slide underneath one another, gained popularity in England during the late 18th and 19th centuries, often attributed to designers such as Thomas Sheraton to maximise space in formal reception rooms.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames and veneers such as mahogany, walnut, or satinwood, paired with inset panels of finely tooled or gilded leather on the tabletop surface.

Authentic period pieces exhibit traditional joinery techniques, such as hand-cut dovetails where applicable, aged patina on the wood and leather, and minor signs of wear consistent with historical use rather than modern distressing.

They can be arranged together as a multi-level surface or separated around a room to function as modular side tables, offering flexible functionality alongside contemporary seating arrangements.

Protect the wood and leather from direct sunlight and excessive moisture by using coasters, and periodically clean the leather with a soft, dry cloth while avoiding harsh chemical cleaners.
