1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

For your consideration is this extremely rare and very enchanting porcelain bisque cigarette holder match striker dating to the 1930s and sourced in France. Depicting a flapper girl sat holding a fan short vessels that operate as cigarette holder. She's dressed in the fashion of the day with a crimped bob haircut. The attention to detail is just wonderful, so skillfully painted, from her slightly blushed cheeks to her dress, everything about this piece screams quality and at every angle she looks amazing. Behind the figure is an unpainted vanish area which is made for striking a match. Her dress works as an ashtray, of course it can also be used as a pin tray or card holder for modern day use. She's larger than usual and so makes a great piece for display. This is one of our personal favourite pieces, she won't disappoint and comes in great condition free from any damage or restoration.

Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An Art Deco flapper cigarette holder is a decorative ceramic or porcelain smoking accessory produced during the 1920s and 1930s, typically depicting stylized young women of the period holding functional slots for cigarettes or matches.

These pieces were typically slip-cast in glazed porcelain or earthenware, hand-painted with coloured enamels, and sometimes fitted with textured, unglazed surfaces intended for striking matches.

Authentic items display period-correct hand-painted details, characteristic bobbed hairstyles and clothing of the 1930s, maker stamps or country-of-origin marks on the underside, and natural age-related wear on contact points.

Small porcelain tobacciana items can be styled as accent decor on a sideboard, bookshelves, or a vanity table, serving as unique trinket dishes for small items or jewellery.

Dust gently with a soft dry microfiber cloth. Avoid harsh chemical cleaners or submersion in water, as abrasive treatments can damage delicate cold-painted details or glaze finishes.
