Imperial Satsuma Censer and Cover, Japan, Meiji Period.

Description

Imperial Satsuma earthenware censer and cover, Japan, Meiji Period. The large ovoid censer, set upon three feet, and finely enamelled with fan shaped panels containing flowering plants, on a ground of dragons, flowerheads, and gilt karakusa scroll.

The cover enamelled with textile motif, and surmounted with a pierced chrysanthemum finial.

Gilt signature and iron red Satsuma Mon to the base.

Height – 18 cm, 7 1/8”.

Diameter – 13 cm, 5 2/8”.

Condition – Excellent. No damage. No restoration.
