Pitch pipes were used predominantly in 18th and early 19th-century churches and choirs to give the starting note for hymns before the widespread adoption of tuning forks or organs.

They were typically handcrafted from dense hardwoods such as mahogany, walnut, or fruitwood, featuring internal wooden stoppers to alter the pitch.

Authenticity is determined by period-correct timber patination, hand-cut joinery, traditional finishing techniques, and the presence of a sliding wooden stopper mechanism.

Display the instrument on a bookshelf, mantelpiece, or within a cabinet of curiosities as a sculptural conversation piece that highlights historical craftsmanship.

Keep wooden artefacts away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity sources, dusting gently with a dry, soft cloth and avoiding liquid polishes.
