A Victorian Pine Scrub Top daily usable table with great style.
This original Victorian scrub-top table represents the perfect marriage of 19th-century character and a 21st-century aesthetic, it really would look the part in almost any home.
The size is perfect for 4 people and would seat up to 6 people. Its key feature is the "scrub top", which has been recently re-scrubbed, sealed and waxed, giving the tabletop a beautiful, pale appearance that highlights the natural grain of the pine and its time worn character.
We discovered this piece in a painted state and have meticulously hand-stripped it to reveal the remarkable quality of the English pine hidden beneath. Because it was protected by paint for so long, the timber has retained a beautiful, crisp grain and an almost perfect surface while still showcasing the authentic, soft patina that only a genuine antique can provide. Crucially, this piece was stripped entirely by hand rather than being subjected to a caustic chemical dip; this gentle process ensures the wood grain isn't "fuzzed" or damaged and, most importantly, protects the original glue joints from the structural degradation that harsh chemicals can cause.
Unlike the common "orange" look often associated with old pine, we have professionally finished this piece in a highly desirable light, natural tone. Using a specialist sealing and waxing process, we have preserved its contemporary, "bleached" appearance, ensuring it fits seamlessly into Scandi-rustic, modern farmhouse, or minimalist interiors. Beyond its aesthetic appeal, the table is built for daily functional use. All joints have been professionally tightened and re-glued in our workshop to ensure the frame is rock-solid and free from the structural instability common in "rough" antique examples.
The table features a single frieze drawer which is in excellent condition and runs perfectly smoothly —a rarity for a piece of this age. It retains its original turned knob and provides practical storage for cutlery or linens. Fully inspected and guaranteed to be free of woodworm , the table measures 1250mm by 890mm . It is notably deep, offering a generous surface area that comfortably seats four with ample room for serving dishes. The top has been carefully sealed and waxed for durability, making it an exceptionally clean, functional, and superior example of Victorian craftsmanship that is ready for immediate use in a family home.
Condition and Provenance 2 of the legs of this table (on the right side if looking at the drawer side) have had repairs to the bottoms, these are historic repairs but are structurally solid and do not stand out to the eye. Although this table has been restored, as an antique, this table does still show lots of signs of age and use. While in fantastic condition, expect marks, dents and scratches consistent with historical pieces.
