Meissen-Style Covered Urn Flower Vase, Late 19th Century

A fine late 19th century Meissen-style baluster/oviform covered urn flower vase, likely manufactured by Marx Eugène Clauss and Bourdois & Bloch, Porcelaine de Paris (France), a firm founded in 1829. Richly decorated with hand-painted floral reserves and lavishly applied flower swags, with individually modeled blossoms, vines, and leaves.

The porcelain body is heavily encrusted with colorful floral garlands, with distinct hand-painted floral sprays to the front and reverse. The lid is similarly adorned and surmounted by a putti cherub finial. Finished with a Meissen-style blue crossed swords mark with accompanying letters to the base, associated with early M. E. Clauss / Bourdois & Bloch production.

Paris porcelain is regarded in France as Dresden is to Germany or Staffordshire to England, and this piece exemplifies the high decorative quality of the period.
