Chinese export porcelain baskets were manufactured primarily during the 18th and 19th centuries during the Qing Dynasty to supply European and American markets. These vessels were crafted specifically for Western dining customs, designed to hold fruit or chestnuts at formal dinner services.

These items were made from high-fired kaolin clay and decorated using cobalt oxide underglaze painting. The openwork lattice sides were cut out by hand while the clay was damp before the piece underwent its final firing and glazing process.
