This nineteenth century French provincial gueridon takes the form of a round occasional table dating from 1860. The structure comprises a wooden frame with a grey marble inset top, set above a turned central pedestal base decorated with vertical gadrooning. The distressed blue painted finish reveals lighter wood tones through surface wear and aging along the edges and relief carvings. Scroll feet terminate the tripod base, offering steady placement on the floor. Practical dimensions of 74 cm high by 98 cm wide and 98 cm deep provide a compact surface suitable for central placement in a hallway, foyer, or as a display table in a principal reception room.

FAQs

A gueridon is a small, circular side or centre table originating in 18th-century France, supported by one or more central columns or pedestals.

Traditional gueridons often feature carved timber pedestals, marble inset tops, and brass, gilt, or painted surface finishes.

Authentic pieces display hand-carved joinery beneath the pedestal, natural wear to the painted or gilded surfaces, and traditional construction supporting the marble top.

Position the table in an entryway, bay window, or empty room corner as a focal point topped with a ceramic vase or single decorative item.

Dust surfaces regularly with a dry microfibre cloth, clean marble spills immediately using a pH-neutral solution, and avoid chemical solvents on painted wood.
