A luxurious Kyoto Satsuma bowl from the late Meiji period, decorated inside and out to a particularly fine standard. The interior shows an elegant spring landscape beneath cascading cherry blossom, with ladies and children arranged in a balanced composition. The ivory ground is finished with dense micro-dot shading, and each kimono is enriched with gilt and pastel enamels typical of the best Kyoto ateliers.
The exterior offers strong contrast: a deep gosu cobalt ground almost entirely covered by two superb dragons in raised gilding, their scales and whiskers picked out with minute detail. The base carries the Shimazu crest above a red-and-gilt cartouche; the stylised four-character signature has been read as either Kinseizan or Kinkozan, though the cursive form leaves the attribution open.
