A Victorian Parian figure of a robed classical woman, leaning against a brick pedestal with a sheaf of wheat, a dove perched on her shoulder and a cornucopia of flowers at her feet. Finely modelled throughout with crisp drapery and distinctive Victorian Parian surface.

Parian ware is a type of unglazed biscuit porcelain developed in the mid-19th century, formulated to imitate fine hand-carved white marble at a more accessible production cost.

Parian ware is composed of a high percentage of feldspar combined with china clay, slip-cast into detailed moulds to achieve crisp detail and a smooth matte finish.

Authentic pieces feature a fine, semi-translucent body with a distinct marble-like sheen, subtle moulding seams, and often impressed maker marks or registration marks on the base.
