Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Venetian torchere figures originated in 17th and 18th-century Italy as decorative light holders for palatial residences. These full-standing carved figures held candles or torches to illuminate large entryways and reception rooms, reflecting the dramatic aesthetic of the Italian Baroque period.

Authentic Italian torcheres are constructed from hand-carved hardwoods or softwoods, finished with layered polychrome paint and genuine gold leaf gilding. Modern electrical conversions often feature glass shades fitted to mimic the original flame.

Authentic period examples display signs of genuine age, such as natural craquelure in the paint, surface wear on gilded areas, and visible hand-carving marks along structural joints. Genuine antiques are carved from solid timber rather than cast from modern synthetic resins.

Position a standing torchere figure in a hallway alcove, grand foyer, or unoccupied corner to add vertical interest and sculptural historical contrast to a modern room design.

Dust the figure regularly using a dry, soft microfibre cloth or soft-bristled brush. Avoid using water, liquid polishes, or chemical detergents, and position the timber away from direct heat sources to prevent cracking or flaking paint.
