Schierholz Plaue Large Centrepiece With Applied Roses And Putti, C.1907

£600    $819    €691
A large early twentieth-century centrepiece by the Porzellanmanufaktur Plaue (von Schierholz), dating to around 1907. The piece features a rising tree-form stem densely decorated with applied roses and foliage in the characteristic Plaue style. Two putti animate the composition and the openwork upper bowl is accented with gilt and a Dresden-style floral spray. This type of work formed part of the factory’s most elaborate production and reflects the Dresden/Rococo Revival taste of the period.

Plaue’s applied flowers were crafted by specialist female modellers and surviving centrepieces retaining a high proportion of original roses are increasingly uncommon. Early twentieth-century factory catalogues indicate that pieces of this scale occupied the upper levels of the firm’s output.
