Ottoman Mother-of-pearl 19th Century Flintlock Pistol, Turkey

Description

An Ottoman flintlock pistol, the wooden stock profusely inlaid with mother-of-pearl panels and brass strapwork in traditional geometric patterns. Fitted with engraved brass mounts including brass butt-cap, trigger guard and barrel bands. The pistol retains its steel flintlock mechanism, typical of Turkish miquelet-influenced locks of the period.

Long octagonal barrel with a flared brass muzzle cap, and brass inlay to the fore-stock. The pistol shows excellent overall decoration, characteristic of pieces made in the Turkish provinces for high-status civilian use in the 19th century.

Condition: Inlay largely intact with minor age losses; brass mounts with mellow patina; lock in working order; general age wear consistent with use and display.

Barrel length: 9.5", 14.5cm
