FAQs

Masons Ironstone is a type of heavy earthenware patented by Miles Mason in 1813, designed to imitate expensive oriental porcelain while offering greater durability for everyday use.

Ironstone is composed of a mixture of ball clay, china clay, feldspar, and a proportion of slag from iron smelting, which is then fired at high temperatures and often hand-painted with intricate enamel colours.

Authentic pieces typically feature impressed or printed crown and banner backstamps bearing the Masons name, alongside dense, heavy ceramic bodies and characteristic hand-finished details.

These vibrant display plates can be mounted on walls as focal artwork or displayed on plate stands within shelving units to introduce historical texture and bold colour to modern spaces.

Clean gently with a soft, dry cloth or hand wash in lukewarm water with mild soap when necessary, avoiding abrasive scourers and dishwashers to protect the hand-painted enamels.
