FAQs

The William IV style, spanning roughly from 1830 to 1837, bridges late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, characterised by robust classical proportions, heavy scrollwork, and rich dark timbers.

Craftsmen of this era predominantly utilised dense, exotic hardwoods such as rosewood and mahogany, often featuring highly figured grain patterns paired with solid secondary timbers.

Authentic pieces typically exhibit period-correct joinery, heavy central pedestals supported by tripartite plinths, scroll feet, and natural ageing characteristics such as subtle polish shrinkage and patination.

Such a piece works effectively as a contrasting accent beside contemporary upholstery, serving as a functional surface for lighting or sculptural objects to add architectural depth to a room.

Preserve the surface by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a soft dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate microcrystalline wax to nourish the timber.
