Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita area of Hizen province. Characterised by underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron-red enamel and gilding, this style developed during the seventeenth century and gained widespread popularity across Western markets.

Traditional Imari wares are crafted from kaolin clay fused at high temperatures to form hard-paste porcelain. Decorative elements are applied using a multi-stage firing process, starting with underglaze cobalt blue painting followed by overglaze enamel decoration in red, orange, and gilt accents.

Authentic pieces from the early twentieth century often display fine iron-red and gilt detailing alongside traditional panelled motifs. Look for spur marks on the underside, slight variations in hand-painted enamel application, and characteristic cobalt blue rim borders beneath the glaze.

An Imari charger can be positioned on a sideboard top, integrated into a plate wall display, or positioned inside a glass display cabinet. The palette provides visual contrast against dark timber surfaces and neutral painted backgrounds.

Dust regularly using a soft microfibre cloth. If cleaning is required, use lukewarm water with mild liquid soap, avoiding abrasive sponges or harsh chemical cleansers that may compromise the fragile overglaze gilding and enamels.
