A most unusual item of ‘Wardian Furniture’ made from un identified animal hide.
With a large brass embossed plaque ‘trade label’ pinned to the underside “R. Ward & Co Naturalists 166 Piccadilly London”, the likes of which I have not seen before.
Rowland Ward of London was famous for his taxidermy and the associated items, that he referred to as ‘Wardian Furniture’. For more information on this remarkable taxidermy firm see ‘Rowland Ward Taxidermist to the World’ by P.A. Morris. However, it’s interesting to note that no similar trade label is illustrated.
